I haven’t really been anywhere, I’ve been painting plenty of things, but somehow never got around to taking photos and putting them up here… poor blogging form.
Still working my way through the Battlemasters pile. Once these models are all painted there will be two fine armies, although I might need to go back to the beginning and repaint some of the early figures! I’ve improved gradually over the years and I expect some of the first BM minis I painted will look even more amateurish than my usual output! If that ever happens I will of course take some bad photos of the armies!
Savage Beastmen wave their choppers in the air!
Knights Panther and Gobbo Wolf Boyz meet in battle!
Imperial Knights Panther and Lord Knights charge into battle!
Some battle hungry Orcs!

inBattlemasters is a fine game, but there really are a lot of miniatures to paint. I think that this is possibly its biggest failing. The miniatures themselves are pretty basic, but that was about right for the time. But there are so many of them! I have painted loads and yet there are loads left to do… Will I ever finish?

inAnother couple of Battle Masters squads painted up. I tried to do these as quickly as I could without making a complete hash of them. I was amused to note that the previous owner had stuck the flag sticker on upside down. I think we all did that now and again. Despite being forty years old and following the instructions, I still manage to fuck it up building these bloody things. I snapped a trailing bit off a nurgle guy a few weeks ago. I completely fucked up the eagle-on-antenna bit of the Death Watch biker marine, and have glued the wrong bits onto a genestealer hybrid more than once recently. An upside down flag is nothing to me!
The simple shield paintjobs in blue and white were my first attempt at freehand shields. It went alright, I reckon.
The hardest part about this was gluing the shield stickers on. They would not stay flat.
Ready for action!

Two more finished jobs this week. Firstly for Orctober, a base of Battle Masters Orcs. Slowly but surely I’m getting on with Battle Masters. There were over a hundred figures in this game, plus I’ve also got the two expansion boxsets as well. It takes a while! I’m trying to do these a bit quicker. The minis aren’t good enough to justify the best paintjob I can do, but I still want them to look alright. Hopefully I’ve achieved that.
The other challenge I’ve been doing recently for Bolter & Chainsword website’s Imperial Fists Expansion IV. Knowing how busy I was I only vowed a single miniature, and only just scraped through. I’m fairly pleased with this Apothecary though, I think I’ve done a good job here.
With only two days to finish my Oldhammer forum Chaos Villager it looks like I’ve been trying to do too much recently. Should have started earlier!

Another step towards a completed Battle Masters set, this is the fantastic Ogre. The Ogre is the single most powerful model in the game, but his effectiveness is determined by the cards. I think this is a fabulous model – the scale is out compared to GW’s other Ogres (although I haven’t seen him lined up with the Marauder Giant Ogres), but that doesn’t effect how good it is. I’ve got a few of these now, and hope to make up an Ogre mob!

It’s been a while since I’ve completed anything I’ve liked enough to post here, but I’m happy enough with this. I think the horse is better than the rider, I enjoyed learning to do the horse. I’ve never been happy with any horses before but this time I looked at a How To Paint Horses from an old White Dwarf and this is the result.
